Matheson Morning

I thank God for the love He shows me in a Matheson morning

Trees standing tall

Blue sky further than my eyes can see

Birds chirping their sweet melodies that fill my soul with peace

With joy

With a love all the darkness in this world will never understand

To pause

To pray

To prompt me to sing songs of glory, thanks and praise to God

Who loves a sinner like me

With all that yet needs to change

Greater forgiveness for those who have hurt me in my past and present

Forgiving my father for words of cruel destruction to a child

“You’re clumsy.

You’re weak.

You’re lazy.

Your brother’s smarter than you’ll ever be.

You disappoint me.

You will always be a failure.

I wish you had never been born.”

Words spoken in the sickness of schizophrenia

Swatting me with an open hand when I would try to protect my mother

Those haunting words. “The hand or the book.”

Forgiving those who have judged me

Assassinated my character

The call of God on this Matheson morning is to forgive

Let Your love flow into my heart unlike ever before

Spread a message of God’s love for all

The drunkard

The addict

The prostitute

The gambler

The rich

The poor

The abused

The abuser

The mother seeing her children die a slow and miserable death from malnutrition

Those sold into sexual slavery

That homeless person on the street

That disabled person abused physically, emotionally by personal support workers

Father, I pray for all of this family of Yours, Your children

Pray they would have peace

Thank you for this Matheson morning

The brush strokes of Your creativity in the different colours of the leaves

Thank you for loving all of us

Hearing us as we call to You

For the healing in a Matheson morning

Kevin and Karen Osborne are Christian pastoral counsellors and psychotherapists. Kevin is studying to become a psychologist and professor of Psychology. He feels called to also be a chaplain. We have started You Can Hope Again Counselling. Karen enjoys doing cross-stitch while I like writing and singing songs. Karen makes me laugh when she sings the kitty bed-time song saying, “It’s that time. It’s the bestest kitty time of the day!” Kevin enjoys teasing the kitties and making them do kitty dances with music. Their kitty, Catherine, loves it when kitty daddeh sings All Things Bright and Beautiful. Kevin likes doing impressions. He tells children’s stories and helps others with their problems using his hand puppet, Dr. Teddy, who is a therapy bear. He is a partner with us in our counselling practice. We are available to assist with worship and preaching to give busy pastors and ministers a much-needed break. We offer in-office, and phone counselling to anyone in the world.
