There is a Hero in All of Us

What do you think of when you hear the word “hero?” For some images of daring rescues and acts of selfless courage come to mind. As we see the stories on all the news stations, we are told about ordinary people in Colorado who have never sought fame or celebrity risking their own lives to save a fellow human-being. Some have successfully rescued others from the raging flood. Some have been willing to give the greatest sacrifice – their very lives. Why?

I think it is because there is a hero in all of us. I saw this on display with my grandfather. As I look at his photograph in his uniform at age 17 in World War 1, images of battle come to mind. The firing of artillery shells. My grandpa speaking one moment to his fox hole buddy; the next moment his friend is dead. Long nights where…
